How to draw the Ballet Pirouette pose
Height and verticality carry this pose. The dancer rises onto the ball of the left foot, heel lifted high, and the whole body stacks over that small point: ankle, knee, hip, shoulder and ear in one plumb line. The right leg folds into passé, knee bent and opened out to the side, the pointed toes touching the front of the standing knee to make a triangle. The arms curve in front of the body at stomach height, as if around a large ball, and the neck lengthens out of relaxed shoulders. The mannequin's head reaches 169 cm, noticeably higher than in an ordinary stance, which shows how much the relevé lifts the figure.
Turnout reads in the front view: the passé knee points to the side, so the bent leg forms a flat triangle across the body instead of coming toward you. In the side view, figure facing left, that same triangle collapses and the knee seems to vanish, but it is the best place to check the plumb line and the lifted heel. The three-quarter view balances both. From behind, look at the spine standing straight between the shoulder blades. Dancers fix their eyes on a spot and whip the head round last, so in a turning sequence the head lags behind the body.
A knee pointing forward is the classic error and instantly makes it look like a flamingo balance rather than ballet. A flat standing heel removes the relevé. Stiff or raised arms break the rounded shape, and a sagging neck spoils the long line.
Dance posters, recital programmes, music-box figures, a ballet class storyboard or gesture practice for vertical balance are all good uses. A few curved spin lines or a blurred skirt edge help sell the rotation. In the editor, lift the arms into a rounded shape overhead to show a different moment of the turn.
