How to draw the Disco Point pose

One straight line holds this pose together. The right arm points up and out, the left arm points down and across the body, and the two arms line up as a single diagonal running through both shoulders. Lay that line down first as one ruler-straight stroke, then hang the figure from it. If the arms drift onto two different diagonals, the move loses its snap at once.

Under the arms, the hips cock out to the left, the right knee bends inward and the right heel lifts so only the ball of the foot touches. The left leg ends up carrying the weight, which sets the pelvis at odds with the line of the arms, which is where the swagger comes from. The head tips back and the eyes follow the raised finger, stretching the front of the neck. Fingers matter here: a clean, straight index finger with the others curled reads instantly.

The front view is the classic dance-floor silhouette and shows the diagonal at its clearest. In profile the arms overlap and the diagonal collapses, so skip that view unless you want a quirky angle. Three-quarter keeps the line while giving it depth, the low angle sends the raised hand toward the ceiling lights for a poster-style shot, and from behind the cocked hip and bent knee are unmistakable.

Square hips, a stiff neck and mismatched arm diagonals are what turn a dancer into a traffic warden. Push the hip and let the head roll back. Retro party flyers, seventies-themed illustration, dance-floor crowds, karaoke gags and music posters are natural homes for it. In the editor, mirror the figure to point with the left hand, or swing both arms to a steeper diagonal for a more extreme, comic version.
