How to draw the One-Leg Balance pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
A single long leg carries the figure while the other bends and crosses upward in front. The lifted knee creates a strong diagonal near the waist, and its lower leg returns toward the standing side without becoming another support. One arm reaches laterally from the shoulder, widening a pose whose feet otherwise occupy very little ground space. The opposite arm stays closer to the body. Think of the silhouette as a vertical support with two counterweights: a raised leg on one side and an extended arm on the other. The torso's small adjustments connect those opposing directions.
Mark the standing ankle, knee and hip before adding the airborne leg. This gives the balance an intelligible foundation. A frontal angle shows the relationship between the extended arm and crossed thigh, while a profile reveals whether the pelvis sits over the planted foot or drifts too far behind it. Rear views can clarify the lifted shin when it overlaps the supporting leg. The reference is a rigged wooden figure, not a physical balance demonstration, so use the apparent weight line critically rather than assuming every small adjustment would be stable for a person. Its hand shape communicates the reach without requiring a detailed finger arrangement.
More on angles and common mistakes
The most common visual error is allowing the raised foot to look planted, which changes the entire action. Another is shortening the supporting leg because the lifted knee dominates the picture. This reference suits dance-inspired gestures, poised character silhouettes and exercises in single-leg balance; no movement sequence is implied by the still image. In Edit this pose, bend the extended elbow a little while preserving the raised knee. The upper silhouette becomes softer and less expansive. Recheck the torso against the supporting ankle after editing so the figure still suggests a coordinated balance rather than unrelated arm and leg positions.

One-Leg Balance pose prompt
Copy a prompt for your AI image generator. Pair it with the OpenPose skeleton in ControlNet so the generated character matches this exact pose.
General prompt
A person balances on one leg while lifting the other knee across the front of the body. Extend one arm sideways as a counterbalance and keep the opposite arm near the torso. Show the raised foot clearly off the ground against a plain background.
Midjourney
full body balancing person, one standing leg, opposite knee lifted across body, raised foot clear of ground, arm extended sideways, free arm close, poised torso, minimal background --ar 2:3 --style raw
Stable Diffusion
1person, full body, one leg balance, lifted knee, crossed raised thigh, airborne foot, standing leg straight, side extended arm, opposite arm close, poised torso, front three quarter view, balanced silhouette, visible feet, dance gesture, plain background, natural proportions, clear knee bend
Negative prompt
both feet grounded, raised leg straight, arms both lowered, missing counterbalance, detached lifted thigh, backward knee, extra legs, fused ankles, broken shoulder, floating supporting foot, cropped arm, busy backdrop
