How to draw the Hero Power Stance pose
Squint at the silhouette and you should see triangles. The wide legs make one big triangle with the floor, and each bent arm makes a smaller one at the waist, elbows pointing straight out to the sides. Together they give a broad, stable outline that still reads at thumbnail size. The legs are straight, the fists rest on the hip bones, the chest presses forward and the chin lifts while the head turns slightly, as if watching something on the horizon.
Of the six angles, the low one sells it best: looking up from below the knees lengthens the legs, enlarges the chest and puts the raised chin against an empty sky. The front view is the purest symmetrical version and suits cover layouts. The three-quarter view adds depth by showing one elbow coming toward you and the other going away. From the side, figure facing left, you can check that the chest sits ahead of the hips, and the back view shows the arm triangles as cut-outs of background. The high angle shrinks the figure and works against the message, which is only useful if you want irony.
Elbows swung backward instead of out squeeze the silhouette into a column. Feet together lose the base. A sunken chest or rounded shoulders make the stance look tired, the opposite of the goal. Keep the hips level as well; dropping one hip turns heroism into sass.
Comic covers, splash pages, a team line-up, a mascot reveal or a kid's birthday poster all benefit from it. There is no cape on the mannequin, so drape one from the shoulders yourself and let the wind push it to one side for movement. In the editor, turn the head further and lower one fist from the hip to build a variant where the hero has just spotted trouble.
