How to draw the Spider-Man Style Crouch pose
The appeal is compression. The whole body folds into a low, wide package that looks like it could launch in any direction. It is the crouch fans associate with the Spider-Man comics, presented here purely as a body position on a plain wooden mannequin, with no costume, mask or logo.
Weight lives on the balls of the feet, heels lifted, with the knees spread wide to the sides rather than pointing forward. The torso drops low and forward between the thighs. The left hand is planted on the ground between the feet, a third point of contact that turns the base into a tripod, while the right arm swings up and out to the side with the fingers spread, half balance and half alarm. The head stays up, chin lifted, eyes scanning ahead, which keeps the pose alert instead of tired.
Knees pointing forward is the mistake that turns this into an ordinary squat; the outward knees are what give it the spider shape. Heels flat on the ground make the figure heavy and slow. A planted hand outside the feet breaks the tripod and looks like a stumble. Check the front view for the knee spread and the hand between the feet, the side view for the lifted heels and forward torso, and the high angle for the tripod footprint. The low angle, close to the ground, gives the most dramatic comic-panel version.
Superhero comic pages, rooftop stake-outs, acrobats, ninja characters and creature designs with insect-like movement all borrow this crouch. In Edit this pose, swap the arms so the right hand is planted and the left one raised, or lower the raised arm until both hands touch down for a ready-to-pounce variant.
