How to draw the Flying Superhero pose
One detail decides whether the hero is flying or falling: the head. Lift it so the eyes look ahead, past the punching fist, and the figure travels forward; drop it and the same body reads as a dive. Everything else follows from that forward look.
The body lies stretched out horizontally, hovering about 90 cm above the floor in the reference, with no contact anywhere. The right arm punches straight forward beyond the head, fist closed, leading the way. The left arm tucks back along the side of the body. The legs stay together and extend behind, one knee slightly bent so the shape does not look like a plank. Keep the line from fist to toes long and slightly lifted; a body that sags in the middle looks tired, as if gravity is winning.
Profile is the reference angle and gives the full streamlined length. The front view, with the fist coming straight at the camera, is the toughest foreshortening exercise in the set: the fist overlaps the head, the shoulders and chest shrink behind it, and the legs nearly vanish. The low angle shows the hero passing overhead, the high angle lets you add a city sliding by underneath, and the back view reads like a chase.
Avoid putting both arms forward, which turns the shape into a swimmer's glide, and the sagging middle described above. Speed lines trailing from the feet, wind in the hair and a cape if your character wears one are all yours to add; none of them appear on the wooden figure. Comic covers, superhero-style fan art built around your own costume designs, dream sequences and picture-book flights all use it. In the editor, tilt the whole body upward to show a climb, or roll the torso a little and lower one shoulder to bank into a turn.
