How to draw the Standing Knee Hug pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Everything rests on one support. The left leg stands straight and vertical, and the pelvis and nearly upright torso stack over it, so the balance comes from alignment rather than leaning. The right thigh rises well above horizontal and angles a little out to the side, opening the hip. Both hands wrap around the shin just below the knee, the forearms crossing in front of the lower ribs. From the knee the shin hangs down with the foot pointed toward the floor, and the head tips forward to close the distance to the knee from above.
Overlap is the main drawing problem in the front view, so plan the layers before you commit: thigh closest to the torso, hands on the shin, forearms in front of both. In the side view from the figure's left, the standing leg is nearest the camera and the raised thigh sits beyond it, turning the figure into a compact column with one strong bend. The three-quarter view shows the knee's outward angle best. The high angle foreshortens the thigh into a short block beneath the hands, and the low angle reveals the pointed foot hanging below the clasp. Keep the centre of mass over the ball of the standing foot in every view.
More on angles and common mistakes
A frequent mistake is leaning the torso back to counter the knee, which makes the figure look about to fall. Raising the knee dead centre instead of slightly outward loses the opened hip, and drawing the hanging foot flexed contradicts the pointed toe. As a standing knee to chest pose it suits warm-up and stretching scenes, runners before training, balance studies and quiet moments of thought; the floor appears only as a shadow, so add your own ground plane.
In Edit this pose, release one hand from the shin and extend that arm to the side at shoulder height. Lower the knee slightly so the single grip still looks believable, and the hug becomes an active balance.
