How to draw the Sitting on a Ledge pose
The wall, rooftop or table under this figure is not modelled. Imagine its edge running straight beneath the back of the thighs; the feet hang free, the lowest point about 18 cm above the floor, so when you place the figure in a scene, draw the edge first and make sure it sits high enough for the legs to swing.
Weight rests on the sitting bones and the two hands. The arms are straight and the palms press down on the edge right beside the hips, which pushes the shoulders up toward the ears. That small shrug is the detail that tells a viewer the person is propping themselves, not just resting. The torso tips forward a little over the edge, and the head turns to look out across the imagined view, giving the upper body a gentle twist above a mostly square pelvis.
Below the knees the legs should disagree. One shin swings forward, the other hangs back under the ledge, which breaks the silhouette into an easy zigzag. Drawing both legs straight and parallel is the classic mistake; it makes the figure look pinned to the wall like a doll. The other two are hands floating beside the body instead of touching a surface, and a back held upright like someone at a desk. The side view shows the forward lean and the two shin angles most clearly. The back view, handy for a character seen from behind gazing over a city, shows the shoulders lifted above the planted hands, and the low angle gives the familiar look up at someone perched overhead.
Rooftop panels, summer pier scenes, a character waiting on a wall at sunset or a kid on a kitchen counter all start from this shape. In Edit this pose, swap which shin swings forward or turn the head the other way to aim the gaze at a different part of your background, and keep both hands on the line of the edge.
