How to draw the Wide-Knee Sit pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Three things hold the figure up: the pelvis on the floor, two flat feet in front of it, and two straight arms planted beside and slightly behind the hips. Because the knees open wide, the thighs fan out at roughly forty-five degrees from the centre line and the shins drop back to feet that point outward like clock hands at ten to two. The torso tilts back only a little, enough to load the palms, and the head rolls gently toward one shoulder.
Read the wide knee sitting pose as a diamond: hip, knee, foot, opposite foot and opposite knee frame an open space in front of the pelvis. The front and low views show that diamond flat on; the three-quarter view lays the near thigh across the far shin, which is the hardest passage to draw cleanly. The side view from the figure's left shows each arm as a straight prop behind the trunk and makes clear how far back the hands sit. From behind, the arms and shoulders form a wide A shape around the back.
More on angles and common mistakes
Watch the elbows: if they bend, the lean collapses and the shoulders creep up toward the ears. Keep the feet flat, because lifted heels change the sit into a crouch. Also resist pressing the knees all the way down, which belongs to a butterfly stretch and loses the two raised triangles of the legs. The mannequin sits on nothing visible, so the ground plane is implied only by its shadows and contact points.
It makes a good base for resting after a run, sitting on a beach or lawn, watching a match from the grass, or the front row of a casual group picture. In Edit this pose, bring one knee in toward the chest and leave the other open; the asymmetry instantly reads as a looser, more conversational sit.
