How to draw the Crossed-Leg Stretch pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Both arms travel overhead and continue toward the same side, carrying the upper silhouette beyond the head. The rib cage follows that reach while the pelvis pushes in the opposite direction. Below, the legs cross and create a compact base rather than matching the width of the raised arms. The result is a long bow shape interrupted by the crossing knees. Look for the difference between the shortened waist on the bending side and the more open contour on the other. That unequal spacing explains the lateral motion more clearly than simply tilting the entire figure as one rigid piece.
Establish the pelvis before drawing the stretched torso. Its orientation gives you a fixed comparison for the rib cage angle, making the bend legible without exaggeration. From the front, trace the arm sweep and the order of the crossed shins. A side view checks whether the reach stays mostly lateral or drifts forward over the face. The rear angle can reveal a shoulder position hidden by the skull. The wooden mannequin approximates nearby overhead hands with simple articulated shapes; it does not demonstrate exact finger interlocking or a particular flexibility range. Treat this as an artist's gesture reference, not a stretching instruction.
More on angles and common mistakes
Avoid drawing the inner waist as a sharp broken corner. The torso is assembled from distinct masses, but their connection should still feel continuous in a human drawing. Also keep both feet identifiable despite the narrow stance. This reference suits elongated character designs, dance-inspired thumbnails and studies of compression versus extension. Select Edit this pose and bring the overhead wrist area slightly closer to the vertical line above the pelvis. That reduces the bend while preserving the crossed legs. Compare the two waist contours after editing, making sure the change happens through the rib cage and shoulders rather than only at the hands.

Crossed-Leg Stretch pose prompt
Copy a prompt for your AI image generator. Pair it with the OpenPose skeleton in ControlNet so the generated character matches this exact pose.
General prompt
A person stands with crossed legs and shifts the hips sideways while reaching both arms overhead toward the opposite side. Bend the torso laterally, keeping the hands near each other and both feet visible. Present the full figure on a plain background.
Midjourney
full body person, crossed standing legs, hips shifted opposite overhead reach, both arms sweeping sideways above head, lateral torso curve, nearby hands, elongated outer waist, uncluttered background --ar 2:3 --style raw
Stable Diffusion
1person, full body, side stretch, crossed legs, arms overhead, lateral reach, hands close, tilted rib cage, opposite hip shift, curved waist, front view, elongated silhouette, visible feet, standing gesture, plain backdrop, soft elbows, natural proportions
Negative prompt
upright torso, arms reaching straight forward, uncrossed feet, sharp broken waist, stretched forearms, hands fused to head, extra wrists, missing ankles, duplicate knees, twisted shoulders, cropped hands, gym equipment
