The hugger carries the whole body on the ball of one foot. The near knee swings forward beside the partner's thigh while the shin kicks back and the foot points, the little lifted-heel gesture that makes the moment look happy rather than formal. Both arms drape over the partner's shoulders and the hands meet behind the neck, which pulls the hugger's chest in and tips the head up. The partner stands square on both heels, body turned three-quarters toward the viewer, one hand on the hugger's waist and the other reaching around the far side to the lower back, head bowed down to meet the upturned face.

Balance is shared, and that is what to draw. The hugger's standing toe sits slightly behind the line of the chest, so without the partner the figure would tip forward; the partner is the post the hugger leans on. Give the partner straight, vertical legs and the contrast reads at once. The front view shows the pair in profile and is the best view for the bent leg, a clean zigzag of thigh, shin and pointed foot. The side view looks over the hugger's shoulder blades with both elbows spread wide and hides the partner's face, while the high angle explains how the two sets of arms interlock: the hugger's arms on top, the partner's below.

More on angles and common mistakes

Watch the gap at the hips. The chests press together but the lower bodies separate slightly to make room for the lifted knee; filling that gap merges the silhouettes into one column. Also keep the heel of the standing foot off the floor, since a flat foot kills the lift. As a hugging pose reference for two equal 175 cm mannequins, it looks better with the partner made a little taller in the editor, so the tiptoe has a reason.

It fits reunions at an arrivals gate, a happy ending panel, prom and graduation photos, or a dance studio greeting. Edit this pose: click the partner and lift both hands to the hugger's shoulder blades for a tighter, more even embrace.
