How to draw the Back Hug pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
The person in front stands on both feet and tips the upper body back a few degrees, so part of the weight settles against the chest behind it. The right elbow lifts high out to the side and the hand folds back behind the head to rest on the partner's cheek. The left forearm crosses the waist with the palm on the belly, a small self-hug that echoes the bigger one. Behind, the hugger plants the feet apart for a wider base, bends forward just enough to lay a cheek on the front person's head, drapes the right arm over the near shoulder so the forearm runs across the collarbones, and keeps the left hand low at the front person's hip.
Overlap decides the whole drawing. From the front the person in front covers almost everything, and the hugger survives only as a second head, the forearm across the chest, one shoulder and a leg at the edge. Separate the two heads with a clear contour where the cheek meets the hair, or they fuse into a single lump. The raised elbow is the one shape that breaks the shared outline, so keep it angular. The side view, from the left, shows the two torsos stacked like spoons with a narrow wedge of air at the knees; the back view turns the hugger into the main figure and hides the front person's face.
More on angles and common mistakes
A frequent mistake is to stand both figures bolt upright, which reads as two people queueing rather than a back hug pose. Another is the floating arm: the forearm across the collarbones should press in, not hover. Both mannequins are 175 cm, so the hugger has to stoop to reach the head; in the editor, make the front figure a few centimetres shorter and the lean becomes natural.
Use it for engagement portraits, a quiet kitchen moment in a slice-of-life comic, a farewell on a station platform, or a romance cover. Edit this pose: click the mannequin behind to select it and slide its draped right arm down to the waist, so both arms wrap the front person in a calmer two-arm hold.
