Weight splits between four supports. The toes carry most of it, heels lifted high and ankles fully extended, while two straight arms angle down from the shoulders to palms set flat outside and slightly ahead of the feet. The knees stay together and the thighs fold tight to the belly, so the trunk leans forward between the arms like a lid closing over the legs. The neck extends and the head lifts, about 78 cm off the floor, with the eyes aimed ahead rather than at the hands. It is a held, springy position: everything is loaded, nothing is resting.

The left-side profile is the clearest reading: a triangle of straight arm, folded leg and floor, the spine laid across the top and the head jutting out at the front corner. In the front view the arms frame the knees symmetrically, hands turned slightly outward; look for the small gap between each elbow and knee, which keeps the arms reading as straight supports. The back view is all hips and raised heels, with the hands just visible beyond the feet. From above, the head and shoulders hide nearly everything except the hands and toes, so it makes a dramatic overhead panel but a poor construction view.

More on angles and common mistakes

Do not let the heels sink; the whole pose depends on that tiptoe lift. Bending the elbows turns the supports into a push-up, and placing the hands between the knees makes it look like a frog squat. Keep both palms flat with the fingers spread, because the mannequin's open hands are the only cue for where the floor contact is. Check the head as well: dropped forward, it shortens the neck and loses the alert, ready-to-launch quality.

Use it for a sprinter coiled at an imagined start line, a cat-like thief ready to bolt from a rooftop, the recovery frame after a dramatic landing, or a character about to dash out of the panel. The floor is not shown, so the track, roof tiles or street are up to you. In Edit this pose, raise the left arm and fold it against the chest; toes and the remaining palm still hold the balance and the figure reads as halfway to standing.
