The right leg is straight and takes the weight, and its hip lifts, while the left leg steps out wide with a soft knee and a raised heel. That pelvic tilt is answered above: the left arm climbs straight up from the shoulder with the hand open, stretching the whole left side of the torso long, while the right side shortens as the right hand plants on the hip with the elbow pointing out. The neck extends and the head turns slightly so the eyes look up along the raised arm toward the fingertips. The overall line runs from the planted right foot through the torso to the high hand in one long diagonal.

Read the standing one arm raised shape as a long side and a short side. The front and back views show it plainly: one flank stretched almost straight, the other pinched between the hip and the bent arm. The side view, from the figure's left, puts the raised arm in front of the head and reveals how far the chin lifts. The three-quarter view, from the front-left, overlaps the raised forearm with the face. The low angle exaggerates the reach, making the upper hand seem far off, and the high angle squashes the stretch but explains the triangle between elbow and waist.

More on angles and common mistakes

A frequent mistake is keeping the shoulders level; the reaching shoulder must rise toward the ear and the opposite one drop. Another is placing the hand on the waist instead of the top of the hip, which lifts the elbow too high. Do not let the raised arm drift outward into a diagonal, or the vertical energy is lost. The wooden hand on the hip is a simple relaxed shape, so decide on a real hand whether the fingers point forward or down.

The pose fits a stretch after waking, a dancer's flourish, a character calling a taxi or answering a question in class, and a confident fashion frame. Use Edit this pose to bend the raised elbow and drop the hand onto the top of the head; the stretch becomes a relaxed, thoughtful gesture while the hip and stance stay the same.
