The figure's right leg is the post: straight, foot flat, taking most of the load. The left leg steps out wide with the knee relaxed and the heel off the floor, so only the ball of that foot touches down. Because the hip of the standing side lifts, the pelvis tilts and the waist pinches on that side. The right arm rises with the elbow lifted forward and out, and its palm wraps the side of the neck under the jaw. The left arm hangs and its hand rests lightly on the front of the left thigh. The torso leans forward a few degrees and the head drops, tilting and turning toward the raised elbow so the gaze falls on the ground ahead.

This standing hand on neck shape is built on contrasts: one bent arm high and close, one straight arm low and loose; one straight leg, one soft. In the front view the wide triangle of the legs and the elbow sticking out ahead of the face are the main beats. The three-quarter view, from the figure's front-left, shows the head turning away into the raised arm. The side view from the left reveals the forward lean and the lifted left heel. The back view explains how the fingers wrap the neck, and the high angle shows the elbow pointing toward the viewer.

More on angles and common mistakes

If both heels are drawn flat, the weight shift disappears and the figure looks braced. If the elbow drops to the chest, the hand slides to the throat and the gesture reads as discomfort rather than ease. Make sure the resting hand actually meets the thigh; a few centimetres of air turns it into a stiff hang. The wooden neck is a simple cylinder, so add the tendon that runs from behind the ear to the collarbone where the fingers press.

The gesture suggests embarrassment, a shy apology, mild fatigue or someone thinking before answering a question. It fits a character introduction, a casual fashion frame or a quick storyboard beat. Edit this pose by swapping the gaze: rotate the head up and toward the viewer and the same arm reads as a sheepish grin rather than a tired stretch.
