How to draw the Sitting with Legs Crossed pose
The chair is missing from the image, so imagine it first. The seat sits under the pelvis at about knee height, and the body leans back slightly as if against a backrest. Sketch a box for the seat before the figure and the thighs will settle onto it instead of floating. With the head at roughly 119 cm, you also get a quick check for placing this seated character beside standing ones.
The crossing happens at the knee. The left thigh rests on the seat with its shin dropping to the floor, and the right thigh lies on top of it, pressing down so no gap opens between them. Below the knee the right shin angles forward and across, with the foot hanging relaxed and the toes pointing down. The hands clasp over the top knee, so the arms form a loop that ties shoulders to legs and holds the composition together.
Look out for a top thigh hovering above the bottom one, a hanging shin drawn straight down like a post when it really slants away from the lower leg, and shoulders hunched over the knees, which reads as anxious rather than elegant. Keep the chest open and the spine leaning back into the imagined chair.
The camera angles split the work between them. The front view shows how far the crossed leg overlaps and hides the left knee. The side view makes the recline and the stacked thighs measurable. For portraits, the three-quarter camera flatters most, the high angle reveals the hand clasp, and from behind you can judge the seat contact and the slight backward lean. Interviews, talk-show sets, office scenes and formal portraits all use this posture. In the editor, unclasp the hands and lay one arm along an imagined armrest, or flip it left to right for a left-over-right cross.
