How to draw the Knee Up, Head in Hand pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Read the weight as a chain. The head drops into the hand, the forearm carries it down to an elbow parked on top of the right knee, and the thigh and shin pass it into a foot planted flat near the seat. That right side forms a closed triangle of thigh, shin and forearm with the elbow at its peak. The left side stays open: the left leg slides far out to the side on a long diagonal, and the straight left arm presses its palm into the floor beside the hip like a kickstand. Between the two, the spine curls forward and leans toward the raised knee.
Mood comes almost entirely from how far the head falls. In the high angle you look onto the crown and can judge how deeply it is bowed; that view also shows the wide spread between the bent and extended legs. From the side, taken from the figure's left, the long left leg runs across the foreground and the cradling hand is half hidden behind the face. The back view loses most of the right arm but makes the slumped curve of the back obvious. Use the front and three-quarter views for the forearm overlapping the cheek.
More on angles and common mistakes
Common errors: an elbow floating above the knee instead of resting on it, a head held upright with fingers barely touching the temple, which kills the sense of weight, and a left leg drawn straight ahead rather than swung out. The bracing arm should stay locked; bending it makes the figure look as though it is about to fall sideways.
This sitting head in hand knee up pose fits exhaustion after a match, a headache, waiting outside an exam room, regret or quiet frustration. The wooden figure has no face, so the expression is yours to choose, and no imagined hair falls over the fingers. Edit this pose: lift the head a few degrees and turn it toward the camera, so the face shows above the forearm and the mood shifts from despair to tired patience.
