How to draw the Shy Hands Behind Back pose
Read the figure from the floor up. The toes point toward each other and the knees bend slightly and roll inward, so the legs form a soft, closing X rather than two parallel columns. That small inward collapse lowers the body a touch and narrows the base, the first signal of shyness. The hands clasp behind the lower back, drawing the shoulders back and up a little, and the head tilts to one side while the chin drops. Every shape folds toward the centre line.
The challenge is that the arms almost vanish. From the front only the upper arms and a sliver of each elbow show, angling backward from the shoulders; leave them out and the character looks armless, so keep the elbows visible just outside the waist. The three-quarter view is the friendliest angle, revealing a bit of the clasped hands behind the hip and the inward turn of the near knee at once. The back view shows the clasp itself and is handy for checking that both wrists sit at the same height. Seen from the side, figure facing left, you can measure the knee bend and see the raised shoulders pulled slightly behind the ear. The high angle exaggerates the dipped head and makes the character feel smaller, which suits the mood.
Two mistakes kill the expression. Spread the legs and the posture turns casual or even sturdy. Lift the chin and it reads as proud, almost cheeky, instead of bashful. Perfectly level shoulders are a smaller problem; a slight height difference that agrees with the head tilt keeps it from looking stiff.
Mascot sheets, chibi art, a character receiving a compliment, a first-date scene or a kid caught after some mischief all draw on this posture. In the editor, raise one heel so only the toes touch the floor; that extra fidget pushes it further toward cute.
