How to draw the Hands on Hips, Knee In pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
The left leg is straight and takes the weight. The right knee bends and rotates inward across the front of the standing leg, and the right heel lifts so that foot rests only on its toes. Both hands sit on the hips with the elbows pushed out to the sides, making two triangles of space between arms and waist. The chest lifts with a slight arch and the head tilts a little. Compared with a full contrapposto, the shoulders here stay fairly square; most of the asymmetry lives below the waist.
In the front view the elbows give the widest point of the silhouette, and the crossing right knee sits on or past the centre line, so trace the inner contours of both legs carefully where they overlap. The three-quarter view, from the figure's front-left, puts the standing leg nearest the camera, partly screening the bent knee behind it. The side view from the figure's left shows the lifted chest and the raised heel. From the back, the elbows frame the waist and the lifted right heel is easy to read. A high angle turns the pair of elbows into a strong horizontal bar across the figure.
More on angles and common mistakes
Watch that the knee turns in rather than out; an outward knee makes a casual resting leg instead of this self-conscious cross. Hands drifting up onto the ribs, elbows pulled back until the triangles vanish, and both heels flat on the ground are the other usual slips. The hands on hips knee in pose works for confident yet playful character introductions, sideline spectators, character sheets and studies of how a knee rotation changes the pelvis.
In Edit this pose, turn the head toward the bent knee and tip it down a few degrees. The wide, confident arms then pair with a hesitant glance, giving the same body a more mixed mood.
