How to draw the Baseball Pitch pose
Timing makes this frame special. The front left foot has just landed at the end of a long stride, knee bent, and the throw has not started. The right arm is cocked back and up in an L, elbow at or slightly above shoulder height and the throwing hand high behind the head. The left arm points forward at the target like a gun sight. The hips are already opening toward home plate while the shoulders stay closed, side-on; that twist between pelvis and ribcage is stored energy, the spring the throw will release. The eyes lock on the catcher.
No ball, glove or mound appears in the image and the mannequin's hands are empty, so add the ball in the right hand and a glove on the left yourself. The pose suits baseball and softball art, but the same mechanics show up in many overhand throws: a javelin, a snowball fight, a spell hurled in a fantasy panel.
The side view (figure facing left) and the front view tell different halves of the story. Profile shows the stride length, the knee over the front ankle and the L of the throwing arm. The front shows the separation, with the hip line angled one way and the shoulder line another. The three-quarter view combines them and is often the most dramatic choice. From the back you can read the drive leg trailing behind, and the low angle exaggerates the stride.
Short strides make a pitcher look timid, so leave a clear gap of well over a leg length between the feet. If the throwing elbow sinks below the shoulder, the arm looks weak and the coil disappears. A dropped glove arm removes the aim. In the editor, rotate the shoulders to face forward to get the release frame that follows, then compare the two side by side.
