The supporting arm is the focal point of this horizontal gesture. Its elbow stays low while the forearm rises toward the side of the head, creating a triangular opening beneath the face. The torso angles gently away from that support and meets a side-turned pelvis. The free forearm rests lower across the front of the body, rather than repeating the upright support. Farther along the silhouette, the legs extend with soft bends and overlap near the ankles. Those small bends keep the lower half relaxed without converting the pose into a tightly curled seated arrangement.

Draw the head support as a connected chain from shoulder to elbow to wrist. Positioning the hand first and forcing the rest of the arm to reach it often creates an implausibly long forearm. A side-oriented three quarter view shows the full sweep of the figure, while an end view reveals how one leg sits in front of the other. Comparing front and rear angles helps explain the pelvis rotation and which elbow is closest to the ground. The wooden model supplies only simplified palm and head contact; it cannot show fingers compressing the cheek or the softness of a supporting cushion. No cushion is depicted.

More on angles and common mistakes

An important mistake to catch is a shoulder collapsing into the ear while the supporting elbow stays too far away. Preserve enough space for the upper arm to connect naturally. Also avoid merging the feet just because their silhouettes overlap. Use this reference for resting conversation scenes, long-format character compositions and studies of asymmetric arm support. Choose Edit this pose and raise the free wrist slightly away from the torso. That turns a quiet resting arm into a small conversational gesture without disturbing the head support. Inspect the opposite side afterward so the new hand position does not disappear inside the chest from another angle.
