Only three parts of the body meet the ground here: the seat and the two heels. The legs run forward side by side with a soft give at the knees, so the side view shows a thin gap of air under each kneecap. Above the pelvis the trunk does not stack bolt upright; it settles a few degrees behind the sit bones while the upper back extends, letting the breastbone lead. Because both hands are busy behind the skull, nothing props the lean, which is why it stays small. The open elbows build a wide diamond around the head, and that diamond is the shape a viewer reads first.

In profile the whole figure becomes a long L, with the horizontal legs taking up most of the width and the torso rising at a slight backward slant. The front view is the hard one: the shins and feet foreshorten toward you, the knees overlap the pelvis, and the elbows become the widest point of the drawing. Turn to the back view to see the interlaced fingers resting on the back of the wooden head and the shoulder blades drawn together. The high angle tips the ribcage toward the camera, so the lifted chest reads clearly; from the low angle the soles come first and the face sits far behind them.

More on angles and common mistakes

The usual slip is rounding the upper back, which turns a proud stretch into a sit-up crunch. Pulling the elbows forward around the cheeks makes it look like distress rather than ease, and a deep recline would need hands on the floor that this figure does not use. Keep the palms near the ears instead of piling them on the crown, and leave the knees slightly unlocked.

Use this seated hands behind head chest lift pose for a beach break on imagined sand, a satisfied stretch after finishing a job, or a lazy moment on a lawn; no towel or ground texture is shown, only the cast shadow. Edit this pose: raise the right knee until its foot plants beside the hip, and the symmetrical stretch turns into a more casual lounging shape.
