How to draw the Lying, One Leg Up pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Contact with the floor is limited to three zones: the shoulders and back of the head, the planted foot, and the arms stretched overhead along the ground. The pelvis lifts into a shallow bridge, putting the centre of mass about 29 cm up while the head stays at 5 cm, so the bent leg works as a post and the raised leg as a lever. That raised leg leaves the hip at a steep diagonal with the knee locked and the foot pointed, angled a little away from the head rather than straight at the ceiling. The arms overhead lengthen the torso, so the body reads as one long ramp from fingertips to hip.
The side view from the figure's left lays out the whole construction: flat arms, the ramp of the torso, the triangle of the bent leg and the lifted leg climbing toward the top of the frame. Looking from the feet, the front view collapses the raised leg into a tall single column standing over the hips, a good foreshortening exercise. The low angle makes that leg tower, while the high angle shows the overhead arms opening slightly apart.
More on angles and common mistakes
Common slips include resting the pelvis flat on the floor, which turns the shape into a plain leg raise, bending the raised knee, and planting the support foot so far from the hip that the shin slants forward. Keep the head down; lifting it breaks the long line. The wooden ankle is stiff, so carry the point through the instep and toes. Use the reference for Pilates and floor-workout illustrations, dance stretching studies and dynamic floor compositions in comic panels.
To bring the support closer to a typical workout, open Edit this pose and swing both arms down beside the hips with the palms pressing the floor. Mirroring the figure swaps which leg is raised. Draw your own ground plane, since the render shows none.
