How to draw the Kneeling, Hand on Hip pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
Thighs stand close to vertical and the hips sit over the knees, shins and pointed feet flat behind, so the lower body is a quiet base. All the character lives in the arms. The right hand presses on the hip just above the joint with the elbow angled out to the side; the left hand cups the back of the head with its elbow lifted above the shoulder. A slight lateral tilt runs through the spine and neck, while the chest stays open and square to the viewer and the head remains level.
Read the upper body as two triangles of empty space at different heights: a small one between the right forearm and the waist, a taller one between the raised left arm and the skull. Getting their size and slope right does more for the likeness than any muscle detail. The front and back views show both triangles, mirrored left to right. The side view, from the figure's left, puts the raised elbow in front of the head and hides the hand on the hip behind the torso, so use the three-quarter view to place it. From a high camera the lifted elbow foreshortens; from a low one it reaches past the head outline.
More on angles and common mistakes
Typical problems are a hip hand that slides up to the ribs or down onto the thigh, a wrist bent sharply backward, and a raised elbow that droops forward across the face. Keep the shoulders level enough that the chest still faces front. This kneeling hand on hip pose fits confident or playful characters, fashion-style kneeling and asymmetric arm studies. Clothing is not modelled, so a waistband or belt under the hand has to be imagined.
Edit this pose: lower the left forearm until the hand rests on the shoulder instead of the head, which keeps the attitude but gives a more relaxed, less posed outline.
