The two hands work as near mirror images. On each side the four fingers curl forward in a soft arc, bending a little more at the ring and little fingers, so the index fingertips meet in the dip at the top of the heart. The thumbs angle down and inward until their tips touch and close the point. Each forearm turns so the palm faces in, the wrists bend back a few degrees, and the elbows open out to the sides at about chest height, which keeps the shape wide rather than pinched. The neck and head nod down a little, as if the eyes are checking the outline. The legs are posed too, weight on the right leg with the left knee soft, but the published views stop at the hips.

Build each hand as a small box first: the palm block, a curved wedge for the four fingers and a separate cylinder for the thumb. The most important shape is the hole in the middle, so draw that negative space before any knuckles. From the front you see the backs of the fingers and the full heart. In the three-quarter view the far hand hides partly behind the near one and its fingers shorten. The side view, from the figure's left, shows how far the hands float in front of the chest. From the high angle the heart flattens into a ledge with the forearms reaching toward it, while the low angle points the thumbs at the lens so they foreshorten to stubs.

More on angles and common mistakes

Typical slips: lacing the fingers together like a prayer grip, which fills the opening; letting the elbows drop against the ribs so the heart sinks to the stomach; or giving the two hands different finger lengths when they should match. A heart hands pose suits fan-sign drawings, concert crowd scenes, idol character sheets, chibi stickers and thank-you cards.

In Edit this pose, rotate both upper arms down by the same amount and the heart slides from chest height to the waist, a shyer, quieter variation. Check the front view afterwards to make sure the index fingertips still touch and the thumbs still close the point.
