How to draw the Chin-in-Hand Crouch pose

three-quarter view
side view
back view
high-angle view
One bent arm rises toward the chin while its elbow stays near a knee. The other arm extends lower, placing its hand close to the ground between the folded legs. That difference prevents the compact silhouette from becoming a closed ball. The hips sit low, the knees bend deeply, and the torso leans forward just enough to connect the head support with the thigh beneath it. Find the broad arc running from the back of the skull over the shoulders and into the pelvis; then identify the smaller angular interruptions made by elbows, knees and wrists.
Drawing from a three quarter angle helps distinguish the near thigh from the calf folded beneath it. Begin with the pelvis height and both knee positions before adding the arms. Otherwise, the attractive chin gesture can distract you into building a crouch whose legs cannot fit underneath. Front views explain the space between the knees, whereas a profile shows the forward lean and the ankle folding. The wooden mannequin offers a construction study of these contacts, with simplified hands rather than exact fingers pressing into a cheek or spreading across a floor. Treat the lower hand as an approximate groundward reach, not proof of a measured support load.
More on angles and common mistakes
Common errors include extending the supporting forearm until it lifts the head too high, or hiding the far foot entirely behind an impossible calf overlap. Keep the chin near its bent hand and let the torso determine the overall height. This reference can guide searching characters, watchful pauses and compressed figure thumbnails. In Edit this pose, raise the downward wrist slightly without moving the knees. A small clearance changes the hand from apparent ground contact to a hovering gesture. Inspect the side view afterward, checking that the chest remains close enough to the thighs for the low crouch to read clearly.

Chin-in-Hand Crouch pose prompt
Copy a prompt for your AI image generator. Pair it with the OpenPose skeleton in ControlNet so the generated character matches this exact pose.
General prompt
Show a person in a deep crouch with hips low and knees folded. One hand supports the chin near a raised knee; the opposite arm reaches downward toward the floor. The head inclines thoughtfully, with all limbs visible on a plain backdrop.
Midjourney
