How to draw the Action Leap pose
The figure is fully in the air, its lowest point about 50 cm above the floor, and that clear gap under the feet is half of the drawing. Leave the space empty and readable; a shadow on the ground placed well away from the feet sells the height better than any number of speed lines.
The legs split into a long stride. The front leg, on the side opposite the driving right arm, reaches forward almost straight, feeling for the landing. The back leg trails behind with the knee bent and the heel lifted. The arms swing in opposition, the way they do in a sprint: the right arm drives forward and up while the left swings back. The torso leans into the jump instead of sitting upright over the hips, and the eyes lock onto the landing spot ahead, so the head tips slightly down along the direction of travel.
Most failed leaps come from one of three choices. Legs pulled together make the figure look like it is hopping, not crossing a gap. An arm swinging forward on the same side as the forward leg looks robotic, because it fights the natural counter-rotation of hips and shoulders. And an upright torso turns the leap into a slow float. The side view shows the full stretch of the stride and the lean in one silhouette; the low angle sets the gap between figure and ground against the sky, the classic hero shot; and the three-quarter view helps you see the shoulders twist against the pelvis.
Parkour and free-running scenes, rooftop chases, superhero panels and game key art where a character clears an obstacle all lean on it. In Edit this pose, increase the bend of the back knee for a more compact jump, or raise the driving arm higher for a bolder reach; the figure stays airborne, so build your rooftop edges around it.
