How to draw the Jogging pose

Set it beside a sprint and the differences tell you how to draw it. The stride is short, the knees stay low, the arms swing gently and the torso stays nearly upright instead of tipping forward. Effort is low, so the shapes are soft: nothing is fully straightened and nothing is pumped hard. A jog drawn like a race reads wrong at once.

This frame is the contact moment. The left foot lands almost directly below the hips, its knee slightly flexed to absorb the step, which keeps the head at about 155 cm, only a little lower than standing height. The right leg swings behind with the heel lifting toward the buttock. Both elbows bend and swing close to the ribs in opposition to the legs, hands loose rather than clenched, and the shoulders hang low and relaxed.

Judge the landing in the side view: the left foot should sit under the body, not far out in front. From the front you can see how narrow a jogger's track is, with the feet landing close to one line and the arms swinging near the torso. A three-quarter camera suits most illustration, the low angle can make an ordinary morning run feel heroic, and from behind the lifted right heel is plain to see.

Watch for a heel strike planted far ahead of the body, fists clenched with the shoulders hiked toward the ears, and a sprinter's forward lean. Jogging figures fill park backgrounds, morning-routine panels, sportswear and lifestyle illustration, and running-cycle studies. In the editor, swap the legs so the right foot lands and you have the opposite contact frame of the same cycle; lower the arms a little more for a slow cool-down pace.
