Read the figure as two linked sections: a kneeling base and a long reaching slope. The knees and shins stay planted with the thighs upright, so the pelvis becomes the highest point of the body. From there the torso tips forward and down, the ribcage settles low between the arms, and the arms extend well past the head with both palms pressed flat. Unlike child's pose, the hips never travel back toward the heels; the upright thigh is the defining detail of the puppy pose. With the gaze lifted to look ahead, the mannequin's head still sits just 26 cm above the floor.

Profile is the clearest silhouette. Seen from the figure's left, there is a right angle at the knee, a vertical thigh, then one long diagonal running down the spine and along the arms to the fingertips. The front view turns that diagonal into heavy foreshortening: the hands come toward you, the head overlaps the shoulders, and the hips peek above the upper back. The back view is mostly pelvis and soles, while the high angle spreads the arms into a wide V that makes a good symmetry check. A gentle back arch opens a gap under the ribcage, best seen from the low angle.

More on angles and common mistakes

Watch for a pelvis that slides forward past the knees, turning the shape into a kneeling plank, or one that sinks back until it becomes child's pose. Keep the elbows straight; bent elbows shorten the reach and make the stretch read as a crawl. The upper arms frame the ears because they sit overhead relative to the torso. The stiff wooden torso cannot show the softening between the shoulder blades, so add that small dip yourself.

Use it for yoga sequences, stretching guides, morning-routine comics and studies of a body angled down toward the viewer. To vary it, choose Edit this pose and lower the head until the forehead rests on the floor, which turns the lifted gaze into a quieter resting stretch, or walk the hands closer together. The mat is left out of the image.
